The president said the city is “deeply troubled” and that they would address crime the way they did in D.C.
President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he would send National Guard troops to Memphis, Tennessee, and approved additional federal officers to support law enforcement and reduce crime. In 2023, Memphis experienced a record of over 390 homicides.
The president called the city “deeply troubled” and said, “We’re going to fix that just like we did Washington.”
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee stated, “I’ve been in close contact with the Administration throughout the week, and will be speaking with President Trump… to work out details of the mission. I’m grateful for the President’s unwavering support and commitment to providing every resource necessary to serve Memphians, and I look forward to working with local officials and law enforcement to continue delivering results.”
While Memphis Mayor Paul Young said, “I did not ask for the National Guard and I don’t think it’s the way to drive down crime,” he stated that he is “committed to working to ensure any efforts strengthen our community and build on our progress.”
Senator Marsha Blackburn stated, “Thank you, Mr. President, for restoring law and order in Democrat-run cities that refuse to crack down on violent crime in favor of soft-on-crime agendas. Let’s Make Memphis Safe Again.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
